Mantle for a Spooky-Glam Halloween
Dress up your home’s focal point in a glamorous fashion this Halloween. On this mantle, I’ve kept the color palette fairly simple: to black and white. A collection of white pumpkins,

Catalabras for Halloween

Wine Bottles become Candelabras; Catalabras for Halloween: Nora's Nest
It's officially the month of Halloween, and I couldn't be more thrilled! After spotting these adorable black cat wine bottles at World Market, I knew they had to become something for this year's spooky-glam festivities. Their shape and color seemed purrfect for candelabras, so "cat"alabras is what I made!

A Chandelier for the Master Bedroom; White Palette in Home Decor; Nora's Nest
It was love at first sight when I found this gorgeous gilt gold chandelier dripping with crystals, and I knew it had to be mine. A relic of a french chateau, it now adorns our master bedroom, its curled structure giving it a sweet whimsical quality.

Simple Summer Fruit Bowl

Simple Summer Fruit Bowl; Nora's Nest
There is perhaps nothing more gratifying than enjoying the bounties of a backyard or garden in summer. With lemon, orange, and pineapple guava trees in their ripened conditions, I decided to create a simple summer fruit bowl and use it as a centerpiece on the

Transforming an Urn for Home Decor

Transforming an Urn for Home Decor; Nora's Nest
Before and After; Transforming an Urn for Home Decor
When a sweet friend gave me this urn last Friday and said, "Maybe you can do something with it!", all I could think of was how lovely it could be once painted and refreshed. Although its color was austere, I loved its simplicity and thought it could be perfect for displaying a house plant or (my favorite) coral. And so the painting adventure began!

Dining Al Fresco

outdoor dining under the shade of trees
What could be more wonderful than dining al fresco under the trees? This photo,
found on Domaine.com, has been so inspiring as I work on transforming my backyard
this summer. The fresh and simple palette, lines of shade trees, gravel floor surface, and
rustic table remind me of being in a lovely Parisian park.

Visually, the linear trees create the sense of a dining room without walls, which is
not only a clever way to define the space, but it also provides dappled shade for the table.
I imagine that the gravel underfoot makes that terrific crunchy sound, and I can also smell
the lemony sole meuniere being prepared in the kitchen, can't you?

Enjoy the beautiful summer, and I hope you enjoy my inspirational photo find!

Fairytale Chandeliers and Sconces

Inspirational Chandeliers and Sconces; Nora's Nest

While visiting one of my favorite home decor stores in Dallas called Vintage Living, I was floored by these exquisite crystal chandeliers and sconces and was delighted to be able to photograph them for Nora's Nest. These one-of-a-kind pieces usually come from French chateaus, their rarity and beauty making them pieces fairytales are made of!

Transform a Frame from New to Antique

Transform a Frame from New to Antique; Nora's Nest
When my darling bride-to-be friend asked if I could help her antique her large, new silver mirror for her wedding, I was thrilled to take on the challenge! She needed the mirror frame to look gold and aged -- its purpose to provide the reception's seating chart via beautiful calligraphy and compliment the gold, neutral, and blush pink tones of her wedding. In under two hours, we transformed her mirror from new to antique. So let's begin!

Creating Our Home Office

Just like a nest, our house is "perched" atop a hill and often feels like a treehouse. The height gives it a beautiful view, and the bonus room at the top front of the house has one of the best views of all. For this reason, I thought it was imperative that this view be enjoyed and admired every day. And so, a home office was born!

Cinco de Mayo Mantle Decor

Mexican Crepe-Paper Flowers; Cinco De Mayo Mantle Decor -- Nora's Nest

Lemons for Spring

"Branch of Lemons" by Claude Monet

I can't help but smile when admiring this still life, "Branch of Lemons", by Claude Monet. Its vibrant yellows and weightless quality says it all for spring. Whenever I find something so inspiring, it makes me think about how to incorporate the theme into my home. Planting lemon trees in old terra cotta pots, giving pops of yellow to my decor (via pillows, throws, flowers), or even attempting my own oil painting of a lemon branch are a few ideas this masterpiece creates. What a way to be inspired :)

Springtime Inspiration

Springtime Mantle with Cherry Blossoms, Sunburst Mirror, and Quartz Crystal

While searching for inspirational, springtime decor ideas, I hit the jackpot! Not only does this photograph serve as the perfect segue from my last post on Sunburst Mirrors, but its fresh, bright, and natural look is exactly what I needed to be inspired. The detailed mantle is complete with sky high cherry blossoms, a large specimen of quartz crystal, and a gold sunburst mirror (of course). Time to find my own cherry blossoms and attempt to emulate this beautiful scene. Hope you enjoy :)

Among those home goods were these delightfully
