Valentine Trees

Valentine Trees for the Mantle

For every Valentine's Day I can remember as a child, a tree branch adorned with heart ornaments graced our home this time of year. Each tree had vintage glass hearts and homemade hearts that my family and I would create in the days leading up to February 14.

I love to carry out these family traditions, especially when they bring magic and beauty to the home. Today, my living room mantle has two Valentine trees with both vintage and handmade hearts. The warm palette pops in this neutral setting, with hot pink ornaments, red hearts, soft pink roses, and candles (from Anthropologie).

These pink glasses can be used as stemware, vases, or candles. Two floating candles in water under-light the scene. The deep crimson hearts reflect in the mirror as a large sea-fan coral rests upon it.

I'm pretty obsessed with my white cast iron urns. Their weight allows for tall branches and trees, giving height to the mantle. Their shabby chic quality contrasts well with the more refined, gold-leaf mirror.

On this mantle above, a bleached manzanita branch is laden with vintage heart ornaments. The backdrop is an Italian gold gilt mirror, with vignettes of antique mercury glass vases and a clam shell presenting the ornaments.

On this rustic mantle, a pastel pink McCoy vase holds dark branches as cyclamen blooms give a pop of pink in a mercury glass planter. But my favorite part of this look is the nest, of course! Small ornaments resemble bird eggs in this nest. We found this empty nest on the ground while on a walk one day! What a lucky, beautiful find.
